Friends

I am so thankful for my wonderful friends!

As soon as he heard that my Lil Bear was stolen, my skate buddy “B” fixed up his car for me to drive to Dallas for our skate party.

Another skate friend offered to take my other car, Breezy, for the weekend so I wouldn’t have to worry about it getting taken or tampered with.

And Mr. Nice Guy said that he would stop by and look in on our lovely Kitty one of the days we were gone.

St. Louis Sk8venture 2016

We had a magnificent time!! There aren’t many skating pictures because I took a lot of video (which, at the time, I did not realize).

Also, there weren’t as many people at the sk8 party as I had anticipated, and most of everyone was local to the area (Illinois, Kansas, Ohio – 2 very sexy brothers from Alabama!). It turns out there were only 150 people there each night. It was a tad bit disappointing, but I saw some of my sk8 family and added a couple to it.

On our drive back, we stopped Sunday night in Kansas City and I skated at Winnwood for their adult night. More people were there than at St. Louis’s actual inter-state sk8 party!

On our way to Sedalia Friday morning to get some coffee! It was a gorgeous morning drive after sleeping at a rest stop in the car Thursday night.

Dinner Date with Mr. R

Time

So, while I was on my Sk8-venture, Mr. R took really good care of me. Before we even left, he paid for my round-trip plane tickets! He picked me up from the airport and dropped me off after it was all over. Also, while we were there, I rode around with him on errands and he made sure that I was okay and had someone to look after me the entire time.

It was all very fatherly and loving and it felt just plain nice.

He is also old enough to be my father (well, not my father, because my father is in his 80s…).

Anyway… Last Friday night we went on our first official date: sushi dinner and a walk around the mall.

The Best Sk8-venture Ever!!

My weekend was just about as perfect as a vacation weekend could be.

Unlike Loserman last year, my ride (Mr R) was precisely on time.

Everyone arrived at the airport with plenty of time to get through security. We even had enough time to sit down and have a nice breakfast!

Breakfast on the way to KC

Eleven of us flew (on the same flight, mind you! One is missing from the pic in the far left corner) and one drove. It was unbelievable that so many people went along! 8 boys, 4 girls…

Everything went so smoothly: our flight was on time, we got good rental cars, we had time to stop and get groceries and lunch and alcohol, our rooms were ready when we got to the hotel/s (I stayed across the street because I booked my room in the skate party room block at the host hotel; their reservations were made too late to get the 5 rooms they needed)…

Lost

lost

As time passes and I get farther and farther away from my last contact with Loserman, I feel more and more lost.

Every day I think of a new reason to call him – or I just end up mulling over the old ones.

  • The valve cover gasket in Breezy is leaking oil into the spark plugs and needs to be replaced. As you may already know, he’s always been my mechanic and he’s the one who rebuilt Breezy’s engine.
  • I still have his roller skates in a duffel bag in my back seat. I want to call him and ask if he wants them (and I miss my skate partner)
  • Next Monday is my birthday… Having a good day with him is all I want as a gift.

The biggest reason I don’t reach out to him is fear of rejection.

And, I guess if I had to be honest, pride…

There were really bad parts to our relationship, especially at the end when he seemed to turn into someone else.

But, before that, there were amazing times.

If there wasn’t, I never would have started this blog and named it what I did.

Spring Sk8 Jam Sacramento

Oh my goodness! Last weekend was amazing! There aren’t even words to express the amount of fun that I had.

It was great that I brought Thing #1 instead of (pretty much) anyone else. We had such a good time, I can barely figure out what to write!!

skating

Rather than going over the minute and pesky travel details with you (because everything went so smoothly), I’ll just get to the good part.

Thursday night we drove to Stockton to a place called Residence Rink. When we got to the address on the directions, it seemed strange: it was a house in the middle of a residential area. As we drove by the first time, both Thing #1 and I thought, This seems more like a house party. There appeared to be bouncers in the parking lot, and the ‘parking lot’ really wasn’t much more than a drive-through driveway. We doubled-back when we saw the DJ’s bus stopped at a gas station and decided to follow them.

The bus drove back to the exact place where we had just been. We parked on the street (because that was the only parking available) and discussed it for a minute. We even called 411 to call the place and talk to a person. 411 had no record of a roller skating rink in Stockton, CA.

So, because the scene seemed kinda fishy and both of us are too shy for our own good, we decided just to return to the hotel…

It turns out that it’s a legitimate rink.

Friday night at the warm-up roll, I talked to one of the hosts. Someone converted their upstairs into a roller skating rink. It’s small, but it has a great wooden floor and people go there all the time. I mentioned that I wished we had known that – if we had, we would have know better and gone in and skated…

Friday we woke up and got groceries. Then, in the afternoon we took a country drive, sat in the shade by the hotel pool and rested to get ready for 5 hours of roller skating that night from Midnight to 5AM.

Thing #1 tried to keep up. She really did! But, after her first 3 hours, she was totally beat. Regardless, she endured until 4AM the first night. I am so proud of her!!

We got back to the hotel and fell into our beds around 5AM Saturday morning. I was only able to sleep for a couple of hours (that’s how I get on these sk8ventures) but I didn’t wake up Thing #1 until about an hour before it was time to leave for the picnic.

The food was amazing and the music rocked! TwoRaw Skate Club knows how to host a party!!
(BTW – If you ever want a really hoppin’ picnic, make sure you hire a DJ, yo!)

Saturday night skating was amazing!!!!!!!!!!!! There were a couple of groups that drove up from Los Angeles and I got to see some friends I met in Phoenix back in February who I wasn’t expecting to get to see…

And…

I am so proud of myself!! Normally I wouldn’t put myself out there and talk to new people. Normally I am a wallflower who just observes quietly. But last weekend I went around introducing myself to strangers and meeting Facebook friends I had never met in person… It totally paid off. I met some great new people who are practically famous in the Skate Community and I got to add them onto my ever-growing skate family!

Sunday afternoon there was bowling, but we decided not to go.

Thing #1 was so sore and tired. I let her sleep late into the afternoon and the she took a hot bath to relax.

When it came time for the cool-down skate at 10PM Sunday night she simply couldn’t find the energy to go. And her body hurt so bad…

But *I* went! (Of course! Did you expect anything less?!)

Most of the out-of-towners had left; there were only a few stragglers from Los Angeles. None of my Skate Family… 😦

Because of that, it was interesting skating the final night. The only people who even acknowledged that I was there were the skate hosts (who were wondering where my partner went) and the out-of-towners. No matter, though. It was a really peaceful and quiet night. I skated the entire 3 hours.

The floor was so smooth, I didn’t want to stop rolling…

And now, here’s a video of the picnic and Saturday Night’s Main Event made by my friend Jamal!

Sk8cation: The Drive Home (Monday and Tuesday)

Sk8cationPalm

I wish I could tell you that we drove home in peace. The End.

That’s how I wished it would be.

Truthfully, I think this trip was karma serving me up some of my just desserts. So, I was still trying to roll with it.

For the most part…

It would be over eventually, right? And I was probably learning something…

This last part of the story is going to be difficult to write because there were a lot of my feelings involved and even more talking. Of course you are only going to hear what I remember, which is definitely going to paint me in a better light, but I always try to put this out here as objectively as I can. This journal is something I go back to later in order to see what-the-fuck. It’s important to me that I am as accurate as possible.

Sk8cation: Sunday

Read about Friday, Saturday Morning and The Rest of Saturday

After Saturday’s skate party was over, our fellow Denver-ite skater friend, Maya, asked for a ride back to our hotel. She wanted to wait in the lobby for her ride back to town and I was happy to oblige. It was nice to have someone else to talk to after skating – someone who has been to one of these things before… The conversation was nice and I learned a lot about the Denver skate drama scene (one thing she told me made me very happy I hadn’t gone to a skate party the year before with a different girl. Whew!).

I had mentioned a few times near the end of the night that I wanted to take a bath – I could feel the soreness in my bones. So, we returned to the hotel and said “Good-bye” to Maya. I told Scorpio he could take the first shower – I didn’t want to get my dirtiness all over the shower before he had a chance to get clean (seriously, that’s how I said it). Also, I wanted to take my time lounging in the hot water. Maybe his germ-o-phobe ass would fall asleep before I crawled into bed like the night before.

He didn’t even suggest that we shower together, he just hopped in the shower and started…. We talked while he was cleaning off – he was telling me what a great time he had, how he had no idea how much fun it would really be and thanking me for “inviting” him! He was downright giddy!

Then, something strange happened. He finished up his shower, dried off and started running a bath for me. I was shocked and all I could think to say was, “Ummm… Thank you for running my bath?”

Sk8cation: Saturday Morning

To read about Friday’s adventure click here

BlameItOnYourPeriod

I got my mother-fucking period.

Again!

And on my Sk8cation, too!!

That is officially 3 ‘cycles’ in as many weeks.

Before we left I figured I should be safe for a few days, right? Even a few weeks?

Fuck this change-of-life shit!

It actually started at the end of our drive Friday night, but I was hoping it was a fluke and only mild spotting (just like I thought the prior week right before I got period #2).

Nope. It wasn’t spotting. Saturday morning I woke up with another full-blown menstrual period!
